A compilation of resources to begin navigating a career in climate!

As I am coming to the end of my bachelor’s in mathematics and computer science, I have begun looking for opportunities where I can best apply the skills I have learnt to address today’s pressing environmental and social challenges. Whilst a lot of awe-inspiring, cutting-edge, all-around-cool work is being done in this space, it can sometimes be hard to navigate. I’ve been fortunate enough to speak to lots of lovely, kind, generous people in the climate tech community who have shared resources and tips. They are compiled here for anyone else who might be looking to begin a career in climate work and find climate related tech roles.

Climate Base: A platform with a directory of climate jobs, events, organisations.

Work on Climate: An action-oriented Slack community for people serious about climate work. Find climate jobs. Build climate companies. Find your people. An excellent way to meet likeminded people who can help you navigate the space!

Tech Jobs For Good: A board to help organisations working on social and environmental issues hire tech talent looking for purposeful work.

Climate Change AI: Specifically for work at the intersection of climate change and machine learning.

Innovate Climate: A newsletter that highlights startups to the broader climate and sustainability ecosystem — you can apply to be featured if you’re looking for opportunities.

Urban Us Job Board: Urban Us funds startups that upgrade cities for climate change. They post jobs from all the companies they work with.

Conservation Tech Resources: A spreadsheet of conservation tech resources / organisations / boards / tools!

Climate Action .tech: A community of practice of tech workers that provides support and guidance for systemic change in our organisations and industries, to face the climate crisis.

Here are more specific resources and organisations that have also been mentioned to me in recent weeks that you might also want to check out!

Climate Tech Guide for Designers: A guide to help designers build a career in climate tech and discover companies that are paving the future of sustainability. A comprehensive list of climate tech companies included too!

Earth Hero: An app that seeks to respond to climate change by discovering personalised, positive steps we can take to care for our planet and communities.

Terra.do: A 12 week online course taught by world-class climate practitioners for people with a deep desire to work on climate.

Let me know if I’m missing anything that ought to be added to this list!
